Today, in the heart of our beautiful islands, under the warm Mediterranean sun, we stand together—unapologetically proud, defiantly visible, and united in our diversity.
We celebrate how far we have come as a country. We are proud of the laws we have passed, the rights we have protected, and the community we have built.
But let us be clear: Pride is not just a celebration. Pride is a protest. Pride is a reminder. Pride is still necessary because while we mostly walk freely here, our siblings in other parts of the world are not so fortunate.
Why do we still need pride is a question which is often asked and there are many examples which can be mentioned both here in Malta and beyond our shores like in the US, UK, Hungary, Uganda, Russia, Gaza and Ukraine.
We march because the rise in hate speech on social media is worrying, we are called so many things because we are living our daily lives being our true authentic selves.
So yes— we still need Pride
We need it for those who cannot march.
We need it for those who are silenced, shamed, or shunned.
We need it because our rights are not guaranteed—they are fought for, and they can be easily taken away.
So we march…
We march to affirm that every identity is valid.
We march to insist that no one’s voice—no one’s body— no-one’s life – can be legislated away.
We march to declare that human rights are not negotiable.
And let us not be complacent. Even here in Malta, discrimination still exists. Too many still face rejection at home, bullying at school, or harassment at work.
So we march—not just in celebration of how far we have come, but in solidarity with those still fighting, and in commitment to a future where no one is left behind, where no one feels scared or threatened, where everyone can feel that they belong without fearing to be who they truly are.
Pride is power. Pride is protest. Pride is protection.
Let us use this moment—not just to wave our flags, but to raise our voices. Let us be louder, bolder, and prouder because silence is not an option. We will not stop until every one of us—regardless of gender, identity, or expression—is safe, affirmed, and respected.
And finally—to every young person watching, wondering if they belong:
You do belong. You are loved. You are not alone.
This community—this rainbow—is yours.
Let’s keep marching. Let’s keep fighting. Let’s keep loving.
I would like to thank my team and all other NGOs for all their hard work that they do, not only during pride but all year round. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the sense of belonging you have provided me with during my years working with you, I appreciate each and every one of you. Let’s give a round of applause and cheer for these individuals who dedicate their time for our community.
